Most people's understanding of coaching is that which concentrates on enhancing performance; such as the sports coach. This is understood and can bring real rewards. It is based on building an individual's awareness of their inherent resources, their behaviours, and works to enhance and better direct these resources for greater efficiency.
Coaching for effective leadership is much greater than this. It starts with a person's strengths and behaviours but then moves to a level that deals with limiting beliefs, positive beliefs, values and identity. The coaching process at this level is empowering and creative.
